NYC SAINT PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Uniform of the Day – Class “A” Uniform:
- Members of the Service must wear the summer blouse. They must also wear a long sleeve dress shirt and dress trousers. Additionally, they must wear a black tie secured with a department tie clip. They should also have an 8-point hat, white gloves, black socks, and polished black dress shoes.
Non Uniform Dress Code – Proper Business Attire:
- Retired, Civilian Emerald Society Members, Civilian Non members and guests must follow the parade guidelines and wear Proper Business Attire.
- Department and Union officials must follow the parade guidelines and wear Proper Business Attire.
If you are not in proper uniform or proper business attire, you would not be able to participate in the 2026 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
PARADE MARCHING GUIDELINES
- The NYCD Emerald Society banner is the only one allowed
- Stay in Step, keep in proper formation by guiding right
- Keep a professional demeanor at all times.
- Personal flags or displays of any kind are prohibited.
- Consuming food, beverages, or smoking within the ranks is not permitted.
- Be vigilant for any “stranglers” or unauthorized individuals within our ranks.
- All out-of-town guests must have written approval from the NYCD Emerald Society Inc. Executive Board and the NYC Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.
- No family members, spouses, significant others, friends, children, etc can join in the Parade. But, they can watch the Parade at 75th and Fifth Ave. Then, they can walk down three blocks. The After-Parade Party is at St Jean Baptiste High School, 173 East 75 Street.
- Please inform any Board member promptly of any concerns or issues.
Special Guidance: Retired members, CIVILIAN MEMBERS, Department and Union Official
- Your Outer garments must not display any rank or designation insignia including displaying your Departmental shield and id, advertisements, text, or logos on the front and back.
- Department “raid style jackets” are strictly prohibited
- Jeans and sneakers of any type are not permissible
- Green hats or unconventional attire are not acceptable
- You will not be able to participate in the parade if you’re not in Proper Business attire
- The Non-Uniform Dress Code is not negotiable.
Remember, we are on Fifth Avenue for one hour once a year. We should march with pride for our Irish-American Heritage, Irish Spirit, and the Correction Department.
The Emerald Society recommends that all participants take public transportation.
The NYCD Emerald Society Inc. is the affiliated organization with the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Inc., and we reserve the right to deny permission to individual (s) to participate in the parade.
